Clinical Psychology FAQ
Psychology consultations are typically 50-55 minute sessions.
You don’t require a referral to see a therapist at Growth Pursuit Consulting, although a GP referral and Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) will allow you to access Medicare rebates which will make your psychology appointments more cost effective.
To be eligible for a Medicare rebate you will need a referral and Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP. Your Mental Health Care Plan will entitle you to rebates on your psychology sessions for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. The rebates reduce your out-of-pocket expenses, though will not cover the full cost of your appointments. The current rebate for a clinical psychologist is $129.55 per session.
At Growth Pursuit Consulting we can process Medicare rebates for you on day of service. Alternatively, you can process this independently.
If you have private health insurance, you can apply for a rebate under your extras on presentation of your receipt. Please note that you are unable to use Medicare rebates and private health funds rebates at the same time. Only one method of rebate can be used for each session.
The content of our sessions is considered confidential and will not be disclosed without your consent.
However, there are some exceptions to the bounds of confidentiality. Psychologists are required by law to
1) comply with requests to make their files available to a court of law if subpoenaed.
2) report when they believe that a client or another person is at risk of injury or harm.
3) with your consent.
If any of these situations become relevant, we will discuss this with you.
As a regulated health service, we abide by National Laws and professional codes such as the APS Code of Conduct, guidelines and policies. Under National Law psychologists are not permitted to use testimonials in advertising. Due to this you won’t see testimonial statements on our website, in our social media or our service promotion.
If you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment time, please provide us as much notice as possible.
We need at least 48 hours’ notice to attempt to fill the appointment time should you cancel or reschedule. So, we ask that you consider this when changing or cancelling a scheduled appointment.
If less than 48 hours' notice is provided a cancellation fee of $95 will apply. Cancellations on day of consultation will incur a full session cancellation fee.
In the event that a session is not attended and a cancellation was not made a non attendance fee at 100% of the consultation rate will apply.
No, we don’t see clients solely for the purposes of assessment and we also do not write court reports.
Payments are typically made on the day of service by credit card. Payments are processed via Halaxy with receipts automatically sent. If you are looking to pay via direct transfer, please contact us for details.
